About Me
Hello and welcome. I publish this blog as a repository of my thoughts on several subjects: daily events (diary-like entries); stories from my past; reflections and musings on life in general; political thoughts focussed mainly on international politics; occasional travelogue-type entries; occasional reviews of of things that strike me as worth sharing; and various links that I come across - that I think are worth spreading.
I live in London, UK. I am originally from Egypt, but I have spent nearly half my life in the UK. I hop to Cairo, where my parents and wider family live, a couple of times a year. I am neither your typical Egyptian, nor your typical Brit. I am what some might say highly-educated in the technology field. Yet, I spend a lot of my spare time writing and musing on things that really have nothing to do with technology.
I suppose you could say I am a bit of a renaissance man: a man of various interests.
I refer to myself as a man. Sometimes I feel I have yet to grow up. Though I have passed the traditional half-point of 35!
Why do I blog? I want to be wiser, more influential, I want to have a voice.
I was first published at 11. However, most of my writings from that period have disappeared. A published letter to the editor of South magazine - a now-defunct publication - still survives. I had found it incumbent upon myself - at age 11 - to encourage the OECD to follow the example of the COMECON. Why I would want to do that at age 11 is a question I have never pondered. Except now.
The voice of Alistair Cooke (of Letter from America) boomed through the spare bedroom's radio and captivated me ever since I was nine. He died only a couple of years ago. Anglo-saxon, colonialist-era gentleman that he was, I found his style admirable, but not his views.
Some of my recent activities include writing acting. I am member of the Person Theatre company, a dramatic improvisation troupe.
